MRP RUN COACHING
ACHIEVE YOUR
MAX RUNNING PERFORMANCE

WHY DO I NEED A RUNNING COACH?

Entered a marathon?

Looking for someone to take away the stress of planning your training?
Worried about fitting training in around work?

Need someone to help adapt your plan when life happens?
Want support and motivation when things get tough?

A coach’s role is to make your life easier by taking care of all the planning of your training, so that you can fit it in around your work and personal life. They will make sure the plans are specific to your needs and goals while also keeping sessions varied so that you won't get bored. They'll even tell you how fast each session should be so that all you have to do is lace up your trainers and get out and run!

Even once the training has been planned sometimes life just happens and a coach will help you adjust things so that you still get the best of every session and stay on track towards achieving your goals. They’re there to motivate you throughout those tough times and hard sessions and they can even help you mentally prepare for that big race.

An experienced coach will also be able to provide advice on other areas of training such as nutrition, strength & conditioning, recovery, and cross training.

Whether you’re training for your first or 50th marathon or for any other race distance a coach can add value to your training and help you achieve your goals.

MRP Run Coaching was created by me (Matt Patten) with the aim of sharing my expertise and experience by providing structured training plans while also providing you with all the additional motivation and support you will need to help you be successful in your running journey.

I will be with you every step of the way to achieving your Max Running Performance.

ABOUT ME

My name’s Matt - and I’m a runner. I love running. It started when I was boy trying to be the fastest kid in school (which I was) and progressed to joining the local athletics club where I trained for and raced over 200m and 400m. Naturally PE was my favourite subject at school and that took me to Loughborough University to study Sport Science where I could also continue my athletics training at the best athletics club at the best university in the country. As my body got too old for the intensity of sprinting I moved on to the roads and started running more endurance events - not an easy thing for a sprinter! Over the last 10 years I’ve trained for and run multiple 5k’s, 10k’s and half marathons and have even been able to complete multiple marathons, all while working at a full time job.

Whilst at Loughborough I took my coaching qualifications and started coaching the 400m group where I gained a lot of experience and learnt from some of Team GB’s best coaches. From there I moved into coaching road runners and in the 10 years since I’ve helped many people train for and complete marathons (and smash their PB’s in the process!). I believe the most important thing a coach can do (apart from putting together a good training plan) is to be there to motivate and support their runners at all times when ever needed. I am passionate about doing this and helping people get that buzz of crossing the finish line of a marathon after putting in the hard graft for 16 weeks. There is nothing more satisfying than helping someone achieve their goals.

NEIL SCOTT
MARATHON PLAN

Client Neil Scott running alongside running coach Matt Patten

"For my first marathon I downloaded a training plan from the internet, which I tried to follow to the letter. It was the hardest thing I'd ever done and I finished in time of 4:24. While the training plan was ok, it was very boring and monotonous not to mention lonely. When I signed up to my second marathon I wanted to change the way I train and I also felt I couldn't do it again on my own. After some research and recommendation from a colleague, Matt was recommended to me. After the first call I had with him I knew I was in good hands, Matt was so knowledgeable but was also interested in me and my lifestyle and how he was going to fit training in around me. When the training sessions came through they were so much more varied than the online plan I’d been following before and if I needed to swap any sessions around Matt was just at the other end of a message to help guide me through. Matt was always there to support me all the way through the plan and also helped me prepare in the lead up to the marathon. I ran 20min faster in my second marathon which was great but the main thing was that this time around the whole experience was a lot more enjoyable. I can’t thank Matt enough and would definitely recommend him to anyone."

MONTHLY ONLINE PLAN

"Matt has taught me so much about running and how to train - who knew there were so many different types of runs?! All my sessions are so well planned and specific to my targets. I really enjoy my weekly catch ups because I can just ask what ever’s on my mind. I’ve started doing some weights to supplement my training which I think is really helping. Matt is really helpful and so approachable and has genuinely made me a better runner!"
